Beverly J. (Cooke) Kelish,93, of La Salle, died July 10, 2019 surrounded by her family in Heritage Health in Mendota.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM July 24th in Trinity United Church of Christ in La Salle with Rev. Betty Delgado officiating. Burial will be in Valley Memorial Park in Spring Valley. Visitation will be in the church from 9:00 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is handling her arrangements.
Mrs. Kelish was born in La Salle on July 3, 1926 to Burton T. and Lillie J. (Peterson) Cooke. She married Richard James Kelish on January 26, 1947. She was a Special Education Teacher and after retiring, was a Substitute Teacher for many area schools. She was certified in Learning Disabilities and a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Kelish served on several committees for the Right to Read, including Bureau County Reading, Starved Rock Reading and International Reading Councils. Mrs. Kelish was a member of Red Hats Society and Peru Eagles Lodge, where she served as vice-president and trustee.
Mrs. Kelish was a member and very active at Trinity United Church of Christ, where she was involved in the Singles Group, Friendship Guild and Women’s Fellowship.
She loved listening to music and played the Violin at a young age.
She is survived by six children, Cheryl Kelish of Oglesby, Kathy (Douglas) Patterson of Streator, Karen (Edwin) McKenzie of La Salle, Pamela (Darryl) Delvallee of Peru, Richard (Jean) Kelish of La Salle and Gregory Kelish of Prospect Heights; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard on June 5, 1987, two sisters, Diane Ruggerio and Marilyn Brock.
