David "Hopper" Haupt

David “Hopper” Haupt, 71, of Peru passed away March 27, 2024 at Allure of Mendota with his daughter Molly by his side.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle. Burial will be at Peru City Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on from 4-7:00 PM Tuesday and additional visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until time of services.

Dave was born in Ottawa on September 14, 1952 to Robert and Anna Marie (Mack) Haupt. He married Linda Horn on October 1, 1988. He worked at Eagle’s in Peru, which then became Jewel, until his retirement.

Dave enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, and being outdoors. He was a handyman. He enjoyed watching old Dr. Who and sci-fi movies. He loved riding his Harley.

Dave was a member and long term commander of the Peru Rescue Station, the La Salle then Princeton Elks Club, Peru Eagles, and Better Fishing Association.

Dave is survived by two daughters Molly (Michael Walton) Haupt and Megan (Chris) Hassler; one son Matt (Mary) Hassler; three grandchildren Vada Anne, Eldon, and Nolan; three brothers Mike Haupt, Larry (Sandy) Haupt, John (Lori) Haupt; one sister Linda (Fred) Dorsey; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Linda on February 8, 2021.

Pallbearers will be Michael Walton, Larry Haupt, Mike Haupt, John Haupt, Matthew Hassler, Eldon Hassler, and Nolan Hassler.
