Richard “Dick” Leshewski, 81, of Dimmick Township, died at 1:20 AM May 9, 2017 in UnityPoint Methodist Hospital in Peoria.

Mass of Christian burial will be Friday at 11:00 AM in Queen of the Holy Rosary Memorial Shrine with Rev. Jacob Valle officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery La Salle. Visitation will be in the church on Friday from 9:30 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Leshewski was born in La Salle on March 30, 1936 to William and Martha (Sabotta) Leshewski. He served with the US Army for four years during the Korean War. He married Carolyn Koplenik in St. Roch’s Church in La Salle with Rev. Richard Fitzsimmons on June 1, 1963. They would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary next month. Dick retired in 1999 from Huntsman Chemical Corp. in Peru after 36 years.

Mr. Leshewski enjoyed hunting, being outdoors, and especially spending time with his grandkids in the garden. He taught them how to grow and eat fresh vegetables.

Mr. Leshewski is survived by his wife Carolyn; two daughters Brenda (Toby) Gualandri of New Braunfels, TX and Amy Leshewski of Dimmick; seven grandchildren Rosemarie (Trevor) Abbud, Tobias, Clare, Peter, Cecilia, Gianna, and Andrew Gualandri; two great grandchildren James and Bella Abbud; two sisters Marlene Morandi of La Salle and Janice Weppler of La Salle; and a special friend Pat Coble of Norfolk, VA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and three sisters.
