Marcia Ann (Nolkemper) Wright

  Marcia Ann Wright, 90, formerly of Wenona, passed away at 10:20 PM Thursday (May 5, 2016) at Unity Point Methodist Hospital in Peoria.

  She was born to the late Frank and Naomi (Schmidt) Nolkemper on March 18, 1926 in Quincy, IL.  She attended Quincy schools and graduated from Quincy High School.  She received a bachelors degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL and a Masters degree from the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL.

  Marcia taught English and Latin for several years at Wenona, IL where she met her husband Wayne Wright.  The couple married on August 15, 1948 in Quincy, IL.  He preceded her in death in 1998.

  Marcia and Wayne lived in Wenona, IL for many years where they made many lifelong friendships.  In the 1960's Marcia and Wayne moved to Crystal Lake, IL where Marcia taught English for many years.  She was the chairperson of the English Department at Crystal Lake High School.

  Following her retirement, Wayne and Marcia enjoyed many winters at their Florida home in Sarasota..  They will be fondly remembered as being gracious hosts for gatherings at their home.

  Marcia was an active member of Delta Kappa Gama and Methodist churches in both Wenona and Crystal Lake, IL.  She was an avid reader and read many books to the blind.

  She was an accomplished bridge player and enjoyed playing cards with her friends.  She enjoyed traveling and her last trip was to Egypt where the highlight of her trip was riding on a camel.

  Marcia leaves two nieces to mourn her passing, Janice (Ronald) Junker of Varna, IL and Carol Kreider of Avon, IL.

  Graveside services will be held on May 22, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Wenona Cemetery with Rev. Donna Baker officiating.  The Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona is in charge of the arrangements. 

  Memorials may be directed to Unity Point Methodist Hospice.
