Kathleen "Marie" (Johnson) Dawson

Kathleen “Marie” Dawson, 95 of 1521 Second St. in Peru died peacefully with her grandson Matt by her side on July 24, 2016 in the Illinois Valley Community Hospital.

Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Friday in Oglesby Union Church with the Rev. Adam Wolfgang officiating. The Hurst Funeral Home in LaSalle is handling her arrangements.

Mrs. Dawson was born in Janesville, WI on July 21, 1921 to Leigh William and Effie Marie (Warner) Johnson. She married Byron “Barney” Dawson on August 21, 1942. Along with her husband, they owned Dawson’s Bible and Gifts Shop in LaSalle. Mrs. Dawson was a member of Oglesby Union Church and numerous women’s prayer groups.

Mrs. Dawson is survived by two daughters; Judy Smiley of Bloomington and Pennie Farneti of Tulsa, OK, grandson Matt Dawson of Peru and four great-grandchildren; Alexa, Byron, Ayla, and Adelyn who she resided with. Additional survivors are six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a daughter in law Chris Dawson of Joliet. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years on August 23, 2005, one son Joel Dawson and one sister Lea Koener.
