Josephine M. “Blondie” Hyson, 97, formerly of La Salle, died peacefully with the strength she portrayed her entire life at 7:20 PM November 25, 2015 in Illinois Valley Community Hospital.

Private Mass of Christian burial will be 1:30 PM Monday in St. Hyacinth’s Church in La Salle with the Very Rev. Antonio Dittmer, Pastor of La Salle Catholic Parishes, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Private visitation will be in the church on Monday from 12:30 until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is assisting the family with her arrangements.

Mrs. Hyson was born in La Salle on February 19, 1918 to Andrew and Stella (Rydz) Leszczynski. She married Charles M. Hyson Sr. in Morris in March of 1934. Josephine was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Hyacinth’s Church and Altar & Rosary Society. She was an active member in the Harmonia Women’s Club and St. Bede’s Mother’s Club. She was a wonderful cook and exceptional knitter. She loved entertaining her family and friends, especially around the holidays. She was famous for her “Nanny-isms” and her conversations.

Mrs. Hyson is survived by one daughter Beverly (Carl) Sons of Oglesby; one son Charles (Nancy) Hyson of Peru; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; one sister Helen (Louis) Curatolo of Streator.

She was preceded in death by her husband on February 6, 2001; one daughter Shirley Peoplis; one son Wayne Hyson; six sisters Ann Ninos, Sally Basalay, Charolette Baron, Evelyn McClure, Mary Mrowicki, and Florence Mueller; four brothers Andrew, Ignatious “Iggy,” Casimir "Bikey," and John Leszczynski.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Peoplis, Christopher Karun, Adam Hyson, Dana Hyson, Dr. Anthony Williams, and Kelsey Moravec.
