Gary Melvin Ong

Gary Melvin Ong, 58, of Phoenix, AZ died at 1:27 PM May 31, 2017. Gary passed away just 9 weeks after receiving a diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer.

A ceremony will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Tonica July 6, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Rev Mark Nowakowski. The Hurst Funeral home in Tonica is handling the arrangements. Gary will be laid to rest next to his late father, Melvin "Mel" Ong. They both were avid Cubs fans.

Gary was born May 9, 1959 in Geneseo to Melvin Ong and Barbara (DeBrusselles) Ong . He married Linda Peal in Shreveport, LA on June 12, 1982 and divorced after 25 years. Gary graduated from Geneseo High School in '77 where he played on the State Championship football team. Gary went onto attend the University of Illinois in '81 and graduated with a bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. Gary worked for West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. in Phoenix for 25 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Katie (Daniel) Parra of Glendale, AZ and two grandchildren Logan & Rylee, his mother Barbara Ong of Oglesby, IL, two sisters Cindy (William) Leach of McKinney, TX and Patricia (Bart) Sheffer of Penrose, CO and one brother Marvin (Marlene) Ong of Geneseo, IL.

In lieu of cards and flowers, please direct memorials to the Gary Ong Memorial Fund at Central Bank Illinois. 101 N. State Street Geneseo, IL 61254. The memorial will be donated to Geneseo High School Athletic Program in honor of Gary.
