Dennis "Digger" Day

Dennis “Digger” E. Day, 69 of Peru, died at home on January 17, 2018.
Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle.  Cremation will follow visitation.
Dennis was born in Ottawa on June 4, 1949 to William E. and Shirley (Halterman) Day.  He married Laura N. Bartram in 1985.  He was a heavy equipment operator for 45 years with Local #150.
Dennis was a Shriner since 1994. He was also a member of the Masonic Temple.
He enjoyed going to the casino and being with his grandchildren.  Dennis loved to work with heavy equipment and would say he was getting paid to play.
Dennis is survived by three daughters, Kallie (Mark) Lyons of Havre de Grace, MD, Linda Sanchez of Oglesby and Sarah (Gary) Swank of Oglesby; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one brother Larry (Shirley) Day of Marseilles.
He was preceded in death by his wife Laura, one grandson Damien Baize and one sister Linda Gaddis. Also his four legged son Sammy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to IVAR or Shriner Children’s Hospital.
