Dale V. Straughn

July 4, 1937 ~ November 22, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Dale V. Straughn, 80, of rural Oglesby, died the morning of November 22, 2017 in Manor Court Bounce Back of Peru, where he had been a patient for a few days.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Monday in Holy Family Catholic Church in Oglesby with Rev. Gary Blake officiating.  Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery in La Salle.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7:00 PM Sunday in the Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica.  Additional visitation will be in the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of services.

Dale was born in Vermillion Township on July 4, 1937 to Jesse and Verna (Rose) Straughn.  He graduated from Tonica High School and married his high school sweetheart Carol Joan Walgenbach in Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in La Salle on August 24, 1957.  He farmed his working life, retiring in 2013.  Dale was a past member of Tonica Telephone Company and Tonica Grade School Board.  

He enjoyed taking road trips with his wife, collecting toy tractors, reading - especially US History, and spending time with his friends and family, which included going to his grandchildren’s numerous activities. He was a selfless man of integrity and will be deeply missed by his family.  

Dale is survived by his children, Kathleen (Allan) Milner of Tonica, Susan (John) Bellino of Standard, Jeanine (Jeff) Snell of La Salle, Duane (Michele) Straughn of Hennepin, Mary Lynn (David) Uitermarkt of Wayne and Brian (Mike Kelly) Straughn of Columbus, OH; fifteen grandchildren, Bonnie (Jeffrey) Dzik, Kristy Robertson, Tara (Bob) Conard, Kevin Milner, Eric (Jenna) Straughn, Chelsi Straughn, John (Lacey) Bellino, Dr. Andrew Bellino, Michael Bellino, Kayla (Shane) Swords, Jaclyn Snell, Lauren Snell, Shelby Straughn, Kyle (Morgan) Uitermarkt, and Kelsey Uitermarkt; ten great-grandchildren, Hailey, Leah, Carter, and Sadie Dzik, Karissa and Brayden Robertson, Jackson Reitz, Lucas and Lacey Straughn and Avery Conard; one brother David (Margaret) Straughn of Hudson.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carol on March 8, 2014, one son Robert Straughn on June 27, 2001, three brothers, Donald, Jesse “Dean” and Kenneth Straughn.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital or the Tonica Fire and Ambulance Department.
