Carolyn A. Crockett, 87, of Rockford, died August 19, 2017 in the Illinois Valley Veterans Home at La Salle.

Cremation rites were accorded and burial of her ashes will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.  The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle is handling her arrangements.

Ms. Crockett was born September 16, 1929 in Beloit, WI to Russell B. and Rose Ann (Stabenow) Crockett. She was delivered by her grandfather Dr. W.W. Crockett.  Carolyn was a member of 2nd Congregational Church in Rockford.  She was a life member of V.F.W. Post 2955 in Roscoe and past president of American Legion Auxiliary in Rockton with 57 years of membership.

Ms. Crockett was employed as supervisor, County Division of Circuit Clerk’s Office in Winnebago County from 1962 to 1979.  From 1979 until her retirement in 1992 she worked as a personnel assistant in Human Resources for the U.S. Postal Service.

Carolyn served on active duty for the U.S. Army as a WAC from 1950 to 1953 with 2 years of service in occupied Germany.  She was a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve for 7 years with Comnav Marianna Islands (Guam).  She also served in the U.S. Army Reserve with over 25 years of service.  She received numerous military awards including the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, USAR Achievement Medal, WWII Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Overseas Training Ribbon and Expert Rifle Badge.  Carolyn retired from the Army Reserve in 1989 as Director, NCO Academy in Madison and Fort McCoy, WI with the rank of Sergeant Major.   

Carolyn is survived by nieces and nephews, Stephen (Mary) Terry, Thomas (Londa) Terry, Teresa (Paul) Rivera, Jennifer, Jackie and Jan Crockett, Linda (James) Enscoe and Patricia (Paul) Cushing; numerous great nieces and nephews. Best friends, Patricia Washkoviak, Wanda and Jeff Bainter and Phyliss Huber.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Lois Terry and Shirley McDermott, brother Robert Crockett and niece Lisa Dawson.
