Barbara Miller

Barbara Miller, 85, formerly of Tonica, was taken with God to her place in heaven on June 18, 2017 in St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley after a brief illness.  She had resided in Aperion Care in Spring Valley where she enjoyed living. Barbara often said “I believe in the Good Lord”.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday in the Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica with Rev. Gregory Jarzombek OSB officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00 PM until time of services.  Cremation will follow services and private burial will be later in Fairview Cemetery in Tonica.

Mrs. Miller was born in Cherry on November 7, 1931 to Leo and Viola (Armstrong) Gass. She married Oscar Miller in March of 1951.  He died in February of 1982.  Before his death, they managed a restaurant and gas station in Gardner, IL on route 66.  After his death she worked in Joliet before coming to Tonica in 2001.

Barbara loved her family.  She collected angels and was an excellent baker.  Her specialty was fruit cakes at Christmas time which made a big hit with her family.

She is survived by one brother, Richard Gass of Oglesby; three sisters, Dorothy Crew of Henry, Katherine Dauber of Tonica and Suzanne (Roger) Siemers of Tonica; nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother Fred Gass, three sisters, Eileen in infancy, Norma Wicks and Mary Ann Kruse.
